Please join Sens. Ruth Hardy and Chris Bray and me for a constituent conversation on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at the Salisbury Congregation Church in the village (across from the library). The event will run 7 p.m. to 8:30. This is open to residents of Brandon and of the Addison-2 legislative district: Cornwall, Goshen, Leicester, Ripton and Salisbury.
Chris, Ruth and I will present on current and upcoming issues facing the Legislature and Vermonters overall, then leave plenty of time for questions and conversation. Chris is chair of the Senate Natural Resources Committee dealing with a range of topics from Act 250 to the Affordable Heat Act to fish and wildlife rules. He also sits on the Finance Committee, which deals with taxes and state revenues. Ruth chairs the Senate Government Operations Committee, which deals with everything from government efficiency to town and city charter changes. She also sits on the Health Care Committee. I am chair of the House Education Committee, which deals with state policy for all levels of education and works with the Ways and Means Committee on education finance issues.
Cornwall residents are also invited to a selectboard-sponsored event on Oct. 18 at 5:30 p.m. at the town hall at which Chris, Ruth and I will speak more specifically about education property taxes, steps taken by the Legislature to reduce them and what the future holds. The forum will be moderated by the selectboard chair.
And if you feel like traveling to Woodstock, I will be part of a presentation and Q&A with House Ways and Means Chair Emilie Kornheiser and former Rep. Charlie Kimbell of Woodstock (running unopposed for his former seat after a two-year hiatus) on Education Finance in Vermont on Oct. 17 at the Woodstock Town Hall at 6 p.m. Charlie will moderate the evening’s discussion.
“Peter is a strong voice advocating for our rural communities in Montpelier, especially complex areas such as education finance, broadband expansion, affordable housing and rural economic development.”
